Sexual Risk Avoidance
In 2015, two members of our team became certified in Sexual Risk Avoidance (SRA) education. SRA is a holistic model for teaching young adults how to avoid risky behaviors, make decisions eliminate all sexual risk (as opposed to only reducing the consequences of risky behavior), and understand why sexual activity in the context of a long-term, mutually monogamous relationship like marriage is optimal for their physical, emotional, and academic well-being. By teaching students how to avoid sexual risk in the first place, they will also avoid the dilemma of unplanned pregnancy.
With permission, we adopted use of the successful Sexual Health and Relationship Education (SHARE) program created by Crossroads Pregnancy Center in Auburn Hills. Jennifer Huggins became our office’s SHARE Program Coordinator and began giving SHARE presentations to youth groups, homeschool groups and current clients. We are currently serving an area high school with factual and memorable presentations by an engaging guest speaker on the topics of pregnancy, STDs and setting and reaching goals.
